My name is Dowton Martin, and I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and the founder of DSM Accounting Services. Shortly after completing my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, I had the opportunity to assist a struggling small business in my hometown community. The business owner was someone I knew personally, and we shared a great relationship. He was hardworking and ambitious, and I wanted to help him get his business back on track.
The business faced several challenges, including inadequate working capital, recurring losses, tax delinquency, and inaccurate financial records. I assisted in bringing the financial records up to date and ensuring their accuracy, prepared and filed the outstanding taxes, performed cash flow analysis and projections, and developed budgeting/forecasting strategies. These efforts helped improve revenue and profitability, as the business owner now had accurate financial information to make informed decisions. This experience inspired me to have a broader impact on small businesses, which led to the creation of DSM Accounting Services.
In addition to being a CPA, I hold two master's degrees: a Master’s in Management Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Northern Caribbean University and a Diploma in Spanish as a Second Language from the University of Salamanca.
Before establishing DSM Accounting Services, I accumulated over two decades of experience in both public and private industry accounting. I worked at one of the Big Four accounting firms, KPMG, and gained experience in various private sector industries, including technology, aerospace & defense, real estate, restaurants, not-for-profits, apparel, web hosting, retail, and hospitality.
I have a passion for helping others and creating value, which led to the formation of DSM Accounting Services. With strong technical qualifications and an extensive background in accounting, audit, finance, and tax, I am committed to providing businesses with the expertise they need to succeed.
